Daimler Truck Focuses on Growth in the Defence Sector

Daimler Truck is bolstering its position in the defence sector with the introduction of an enhanced BMW iX and a renewed focus on the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. This strategic move emphasizes the company’s commitment to developing, producing, and selling cutting-edge military commercial vehicles that meet the evolving needs of defence customers.
The enhanced BMW iX, a key element of this strategy, boasts a significantly extended range of up to 700 kilometres, setting a new benchmark in the segment. This impressive range is achieved through advancements in battery technology, improved inverter technology, and optimized aerodynamics. Furthermore, all iX models experience a power boost, with the iX M70 xDrive delivering an exhilarating 659 hp and achieving 0-100 km/h in a mere 3.5 seconds.
To better serve customers in the MEA region, Daimler Truck has established a strong regional presence with its “Middle East/Africa” Regional Center in Dubai. This strategic location ensures close customer proximity and facilitates rapid access to vehicle and spare parts support.
Daimler Truck offers a diverse portfolio of vehicles tailored to the unique demands of the defence sector, ranging from the extreme off-road capabilities of the Unimog and Zetros to the robust performance of the Arocs and Atego. These vehicles are designed to withstand challenging environments and fulfil a wide range of military and defence applications.
At IDEX 2025 in Abu Dhabi, Daimler Truck showcased a selection of its vehicles, including the Zetros 3351 AS 6×6, a powerful semitrailer tractor for heavy equipment transport, and the Zetros 2036 A 4×4, a versatile platform for material and troop transport. The Arocs 4042 AS 6×6, a heavy-duty tractor unit with twin winches, and the FGA chassis, a robust platform for armoured vehicle construction, further demonstrate the breadth of Daimler Truck’s offerings.

The hugely successful 16th edition of IDEX and 7th edition of NAVDEX in 2023 welcomed 132,507 attendees to ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi. Across the platforms offered by both events, 41 international pavilions were hosted and total of 1,353 exhibitors from 65 countries took part. New features included the inaugural edition of IDEX NEXT_GEN, which provided a platform for more than 100 startups drawn from around the world, and the IDEX THINK_TANK with a series of sessions moderated by exclusive partners that generated exclusive strategic white papers.

China’s Growing Presence at World Defense Show 2026

The third edition of World Defense Show (WDS) 2026, to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 8-12 February, has secured the record participation of more than 100 defense sector companies from China, underpinning the growing international interest in the event, which will showcase the future of defense through breakthrough technological advancements in the sector.
Since its inception, WDS has experienced substantial growth in exhibition space, increasing by an impressive 54 percent from 2022 to 2026—more than doubling its size. Following international interest, the floor space for WDS 2026 is already more than 50 percent sold out. Specific to the China country pavilion, 88 percent of the space has now been secured by Chinese companies, positioning it as the 2nd largest country presence over hosting Saudi Arabia.
The significant participation and interest from Chinese companies have been highlighted during the 15th Airshow China, held from November 12-17, 2024, in Zhuhai. Senior representatives of WDS are attending the event to provide potential exhibitors with the opportunity to learn more about WDS 2026 and to book their space, which is filling up quickly.
At WDS 2024, China had a noteworthy presence with one of the largest pavilions, making up 9 percent of the overall attendance. The companies showcased innovative technologies, underlining their cutting-edge capabilities in diverse areas of the defense industry.
